Simon's Cat Redux

Back in 2008 I came across Simon's Cat and posted his first 3 vids here:
http://undead-karma.blogspot.com/2008/08/simons-cat.html

Recently I stumbled upon his YouTube page though and found he's been busy. So for those who are interested here's a link to Simon's Cat YouTube channel, and an embed of the latest video.

Other Worlds

I feels as though at times I'm loosing touch with reality, like the anchor is working it's way free from the ocean bottom - while other times I feel far to trapped by it, that I've been embedded in the fabric of this world. But enough of this quizzical existence when there are as Jake Chambers put it in Stephen King's Gunslinger and the Dark Tower, "Go then, there are other worlds than these."

Stasis Comfort

I think it's the bleach /cough... with every breath I take it still smells like I'm at some indoor swimming pool. Not that I hate the pool, more rather I just don't like cleaning the shower/tub in the bathroom. The most success seems to come from using a bottle of cleaner then letting it soak *note to self: next house should if possible have a vent window in the bathrooms, those little vent fans don't really do much*

May have found a buyer for the house... still in a wait and see state of mind. It sounds good, but I've learned not to get my hopes up nothing bruises the ego like failing your, Star Trek Federation Luck Roll. However if this is successful I'll be able to find someplace that doesn't quite echo like this one does.

Job performance reviews are done for this year /cheers. It seems like every other year for the past while there is a shake up in supervisory positions at work which can make it hard to gain traction at times in accomplishing much in the trenches. I have some higher hopes this time though with this round - now we continue on and see what happens next.

With WoW coming out soon with a new expansion (12/07) I've been feeling a bit of a tug to reactivate my account... I'm guessing this is what it feels like to other addicts after a long hiatus from their drug of choice, to suddenly have a desire to go back and get another fix. I wonder if Blizzard realizes this release is on Pearl Harbor Day? You know that one day that will "live in infamy"-FDR.

To say I'm not seriously considering reactivating my account would be a lie. To wander a old/new world, exploring new places, seek out corners undiscovered does have some appeal, even if they are virtual... not like I'm using this life for anything else at the moment *and yes, even as I type these words out I realize how sad that sounds.*

I'm also waiting to see what will happen with DIII. Since the release of their latest class/character trailer the idea of waiting for a single player game vs. entry into an MMO subscription setup may help in making a decision.

Of course there is always the possibility of life taking another turn, until it does though I will make stasis a comfortable as possible :P A parting shot though paraphrased from a candy wrapper with quotes printed on it: "Pessimism is just Optimism with life experience."

Well I'm off for now, enjoy the vid, while ponder those final words -
"you have a choice to be hunted or hunter."

Stories for All Hallow's Eve

Two tales for the season. The first for those still young at heart a ghost story named Frosty the Gourdman. Here's the trailer from youtube. (The story is much better than the trailer. With a quick pace though parents are sure to enjoy the ride. Just take a test drive before giving the keys to those who have never read a ghost story before :)

The second tale for those much older who seek a bit more horror in their celebration comes the tale of  Jasper Morello A nice mix of Jules Verne, Edgar Allen Poe and maybe a touch of HP Lovecraft.

I've heard tell that there are two other parts to Jasper's tale that have been written but have yet to be made and released. One day I hope they complete their trilogy - until they do enjoy this first installment.

BONUS:
Tales of dragons are good year round and Sintel is an amazing movie short from Blender. -- Enjoy --

Honestly this bonus is more for me as i didn't want to lose the link in the mix.

Still Alive

A rather enjoyable afternoon... for some reason i thought it would take longer to complete though, and it has peeked my interest in Portal 2 if they ever release it.

Anyway below is the closing song which is icing on the cake...

Rather enjoy the Japanese one as well... but then for those that know me that isn't too much of a surprise i guess.

A Little Grist for the Mill

I recently got back to watching some more Dexter. It's been over a year since I've had a chance to continue my journey from season II to season III. There's just something about watching Dexter that seems to put me in a reflective mood. Combine that with my long lasting slight depression and it can make for some really deep introspection at times. Maybe that's part of it's charm?

Along with all the other chaos or lack thereof inside, depending on your point of view, I've started to try and identify my tet. There are a few general outlines, however I'm not sure if there is anything that might akin to those higher levels tet that ka creates.

Another splash in the psyche was the rounds the simple idea of "Choosing or Being Chosen" seemed to make inside. Part of the idea exhibits control, either in the taking or possible granting to others. Denial is ever present in this model as either side may terminate the exchange, thus reducing the experience to a battle of wills or a nullification of sorts.

That however is a divergent path from the brain twister though. Do we choose our path or is it chosen for us? In many ways it feels much like a forcing of the wheel that pushes us all. Nature abhors a vacuum and it doesn't take much to be sucked in and turned to grist between the stones of time.

Yeah it sounds a bit absurd, even corny, but that is just the state of mind I'm in at the moment... don't worry the colors of khaos are bound to shift again when you least expect it.

Anime Link Shuffle Update

Due to technical difficulties it looks like Bleach 7 is still having a few connectivity issues. However I was able to find the group they were using for their Fan-Sub service.

I've also added Mazui-Subs along the side - as I found they have been working on the Spice and Wolf series. Which has been quite enjoyable - not to mention if you pay attention there is usually a free economics lesson buried inside, under all the alcohol, misunderstandings and playful banter.

Better Brain Hacking

It's hard to say, but Inception may be one of the best brain hacks I've seen in ages.

I was going to wait until it came out on DVD, but this is one of those movies that I was glad I didn't wait to catch on it's second release.

We enter the movie experience to explore a new world of the director's creation. It's been so long, and feels so good to have a movie experience that I didn't have to turn my brain off to enjoy. Watching just about any movie requires the viewer to suspend their belief in what is real. . . Mystery Science Theater makes good use of this. Inviting one to mock and enjoy those movies that for one reason or another are flawed in their illusion.

Even with a fairly linear story however one must keep their wits about them or be lost in the telling. As with every step further in the world created by Christopher Nolan becomes more complex asking you to go further down the rabbit hole or fall into limbo.

Ippen Shinde Miru?

It's been awhile since I looked at my current addictions... at the moment I can only think of two or three, the image above is from one of them on the anime front. It's from Jigoku Shoujo - I think I stumbled in at the second season: Jigoku Shoujo Futakomori, and became hooked not so much in the formulaic plot, but in the subtleties within each of the stories. I've got high hopes for season three: Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae.

Another show that has really stood out over the past few months is The Last Exile - also well done, I'll let the those who take the time to watch decide on the ending though as I'm still torn on this unique sci-fi.

A special thanks to all those out there who for what ever the reason continue to provide fansubs to the world.

As for music - - the pendulum forever swings. Lately I've felt pulled to a little faster beat and back away from the American market of music. This seems to happen in cycles with the last major draw back to the U.S. being Breaking Benjamen, and Blue October. Currently the Japanese have my ear, with Ellegarden, and Muramasa keeping me going... Elle has become quite addicting to say the least reminding me a bit of Blink 182

Even with all these shifts it took Dragon Age: Origins to finish burning World of Warcaft out of my system. Currently even with all it's faults I can say my once strong desire to jump right back in to WoW has been cut substantially, and the best part is I'm now I've a little extra cash in my pocket.

4 8 15 16 23 42

Okay I had to watch the Lost finally twice before making this post. As always there is much that could be debated and theorized which may make for interesting posts later.

WARNING: possible Spoilers ahead

Using meetings between characters with strong connections to trigger memories then creating a montage of images flashing through key events from their island life was a nice way to do a flashback without being overly blatant about it. Allowing for those watching to glimpse and remember just how much these characters have gone through in the past few years in a strange way added to the felling of closure in the final episode.

I could of used a bit more epilogue though as to what happened to those who did make it off before our final stop in the chapel. And to say I'm not curious about the first few adventures of Hugo and Ben would be a lie, however I have placed those flights of fancy in the back of my mind with Calvin and Hobbes.

For now though know that this has been a six season Twilight Zone - a well done one at that. If this statement seems a bit off just visualized Rod Serling or Nestor Carbonell (who played Ricard Alpert) providing some ending dialogue about life lessons learned by those Lost in the Twilight Zone.

Tweaks & Updates

It's a good thing the world doesn't verify my existence by how often blog posts are made here, as I have a sneaking suspicion my death certificate would have arrived and my access cut off :P

Anyway, a few tweaks have been made to the side for 'Hito no Tabi', and 'Anime', there are a couple places I've grown to like changing 'Streaming Audio' to 'Streaming Bits' due to a large shift in my viewing habits going from television to streaming it online. Most likely I'll need to look into increasing my bandwidth as the rest of the world discovers this lovely way to watch what you want when you want it with minimal cost.

It feels weird... not having played WoW this long. I think it's the first time in around 4+ years I've not gone trick or treating at the inns around Azeroth. For now I've been out of the MMORPG online for the past few months, however I'm still checking the sites I found helpful on a regular basis - - not sure what this bodes for the future, but the links are down toward the bottom now. Now that I think about it this in someways this might be like the recovering alcoholic checking the bar sites to keep tab on things while in rehab...

Dr. Horrible

Okay this has been one of my most recent addictions... much more than i thought it would be.

For those who haven't seen Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog, pls enjoy, and for those of the addicted - well, will see if you can pass the video to the next part of this post without watching....Muhahaha.

It has been years since I've had a desire to put together a costume for all hallows eve, but i may give the doc a shot - - if i can find the howie lab coat for a reasonable price. right now i think i can put the costume together for between 200-250 us dollars, and with the lab coat being the bulk of the purchase (150-200 us) I'm just not sure how many places i will be wearing the lab coat later - not like a good lab coat is daily wear at work for me :P

Stainislaw Lem

I bumped into an article on Slashdot a couple of days ago about "The Futurological Congress" written by Stainislaw Lem - - I'd never heard about him but it did raise my curiosity enough to go to the site of all semi-relevant human knowledge (wikipeidia) and search his name.

Some of the quotes they had from his work seemed to hit a note:

This one sounds like a politician's motto: "The ancients used to say: mundus vult decipi, ergo decipiatur — the world wants to be deceived, so let it be deceived."

"he who can transform himself has no one in the world but himself to blame for his failings, no one but himself to hold responsible for his dissatisfaction."

Seems like an interesting writer and possibly a worthy read, but he wrote a lot so I'm curious. Where's the best place to start?

HBO - Lost Week, First Snow

There are times when hibernation really sounds good - sadly our world is on such a time crunch that loosing a week during the holidays comes with a mixed reaction. However a cold/flu has a way of adjusting those priorities, and made for some interesting realizations.

Most two parent families run on a Good Cop/Bad Cop system. This is much harder for single parent situations (even when channeling multiple voices)

It seems like most kids will play the BS card first - I'm working on at least getting them to understanding that there's more than one card to that deck. And if all goes well maybe we can get those dots will stay connected a bit longer each time :)

As for the holidays -- still playing catch up there, who knows maybe I'll get lucky and catch a tail wind to help on the Christmas stuff.

So many people - - deep down I think I'm beginning to yearn for a PVE vacation. In many ways there are just too many interruptions and no chance for escape.

How does Dexter do it :P I know good writers help. Right now I'm enjoying Season 2, Disk 2 - - some interesting twists, and I'm looking forward to the continuing of this pleasantly disturbed state.

I may not have gone through recovery, but I'm still tracking more with the main character than any of the others. Maybe there's a hidden serial bit to my life locked deep in, a dark rider that I've managed to keep submerged. I mean it's not like I've got the gulf stream to bury the Dark Rider's prey in >:)

Todash - Running to REM

A word coined by Stephen King and used in his Dark Tower series. It might be used either as adjective or noun. Todash means teleporting or time traveling (or both, since you travel in space as well as time), often through a door. You might go to "todash darkness" as well which is practically emptiness between worlds. King defines it as "the space between the walls in a house" and further implies that any kind of monstrosity might be waiting there.

examples:
He knew the dangers of going todash.
She heard the todash chimes and shuddered.
I'd imagine this is the place between this world and that where one is able to dream in a lucid state. . .
It is rare that I am provided the opportunity to remember any of my dreams. . . Or that I can return to any form of the dream plane after being jarred back to this reality. Today was different though.

I remember the alarm clocks of this life going off - - noisy kids, the neighbor dogs barking and wishing they'd just shut up. The denial of it all, and the attempted return to get a little bit more rest.

It's during these moments I have the best chance of lucid dreaming, and the opportunity of remembering anything of those dreams that come. When the balance of the subconscious and conscious seems to be just right to allow the minds eye to peer across the abyss. . .

I remember farms, and a village I'm not sure of their real names, but my brain tried to name them as the dream progressed. In some ways it had a MMO quality and other than the river and culvert for watering crops there was a Westfall, Goldshire type feel to the land - with more the green of Goldshire.

The town was filled with humans and possibly a few other races - of this I'm not sure. But there was a newspaper shelf/rack (kind of high set on a pole, as either I was short or the rack was high due to my need to jump in order to grab a newspaper.) It had one of the local paper monikers on it from where I live - strange but then in dreams the strange is easily accepted as real.

There was space behind the village - a forested area. . . maybe this was two trips? Dream time obeys it's own laws. Oh and did I mention I was an Orc? (more of the Warcraft flavor than that of Middle Earth)

It was shortly after getting the paper that I remember being chased with two others. I don't know why but the townsfolk wanted us - not sure why but I didn't want to stick around and find out either. We ran through the field that was between the village and the forested hills to the a section of town that had craftspeople in it (masons, I think or sculptors) - and rather than jump off a high ledge and 'remembering to crouch' (i think they meant roll) I ran back thinking I could just float down the river to the safety of a thick jungle down south.

Which would have been far easier if not for the appearance of alligators in the river.

So I had my choice - the river gators, or the angry towns folk. Which for some reason would not chase anyone into the water, must have been the gators. . .

After being harried back and forth I managed to cross the river and get into a animal pen with large chain-link fence section, which I am grateful to say was able to float in the stream/river and the gators had no interest in it.

I have no idea what happened to the others, the news paper, or why I was even being chased. And that's how it ended - me floating out of town on a chunk of chain-link fence surrounded by gators headed down stream.

Upon looking at the clock after this I found I had overslept and made one of my fastest trips to work through traffic to date. . .

Pleasantly Disturbed

Got a chance - or took the opportunity depending on you point of view and watched Dexter (first season first disc). So far I'd definitely give this one a chance - - - might even be worth the purchase.

Now I'm not planning to start taking folks out, but there are certain aspects of these characters that are very easy for me to identify with. Sadly it's the more 'damaged' ones that hold my interest. The detached looking in from the outside - trying to find a place, but not sure if there really is one.

Maybe I'm just projecting a bit - or it could be:

"All you can do is play along at life and hope that sometimes you get it right."
Dexter (season 1, episode 3).
